He had given more than 55 years of dedicated service in this field.Lortis Patterson rose to the position of head teacher and taught at schools in all three counties— from Skeldon in Berbice to schools in the far-flung interior regions of Guyana.? He was also the chairman of the Village Council and spearheaded the construction of the largest community centre in the county- the Kildonan Community Centre through self-help in 1969.Lortis Patterson was the father of Justice Winston Patterson, who is just one of his offspring to attain senior positions in both the public and private sector in and out of Guyana.To be eligible to be a recipient of the award, applicants must be between the ages of 23 and 45 years; and must be accepted for a degree or Diploma in Education programme at the University of Guyana.Students who enroll in the Certificate in Education Programme at the Cyril Potter College of Education will also be eligible for consideration.The scholarship covers tuition for a period of four years and the successful applicant must maintain a grade point average 2.5 or above. Failing to do so may automatically result in the applicant losing the scholarship.Applicants must be born and be domiciled in the area and must be a practising teacher. Persons applying for the scholarship had to supply their full name and address, telephone number and other contact information, one passport size photograph and proof of acceptance to the education institution.Dr Estwick who lives in the United States is the holder of five PHDs. He is a son of the soil and a medical doctor.He attended the Kildonan Primary school in his formative years.? Dr. Estwick is also the patron of the Computer Centre that is situated at the Kildonan Community Centre. He is the author of the Book ‘A successful Journey’ which is available at the National Library at Kildonan.Dr Estwick returns every year and holds free clinics whenever he is in Guyana. He has also been contributing to community development in his home community for over 10 years.He has also donated computers, books, and finances to institutions and organisations.
